The overall aim of the North West Kent Teaching School Alliance is:

“To make significant improvements in the quality of teaching, leadership, recruitment and pupil attainment.”

It is our fundamental belief that this starts with providing high quality teacher training, with all of our trainees continuing onto their NQT year in the local area. We work closely with Kent and Medway Teacher Training to ensure that you receive high quality guidance on the best route into the profession for you. This partnership has helped to nurture huge numbers of successful teachers, with many now progressing into school management.

The alliance currently covers four secondary schools and eleven primary schools. This provides our trainees with the opportunity to work in a range of settings and we will help you to find relevant school experience placements (you are expected to have undertaken at least 10 days observation/work experience in the relevant setting) before you commence your training year. With KMT, you will be working in a base school for the majority of the year. However, you will also undertake a second placement to help you to broaden your experiences and to see all that the teaching profession has to offer. We will also provide you with a comprehensive Professional Studies programme that will give you the opportunity to develop your practice, as well as network with other trainees and NQTs.

You will need to have a university degree that is at least a 2:2 (or a recognised equivalent). You will also need to have at least a grade C (or grade 4) for GCSE English and Mathematics. Primary colleagues will also need to have achieved the minimum of a grade C in GCSE Science.

Additionally, you will be required to pass the QTS Skills tests before you begin your training year. Please see the following website for more information on this.
